About the Author

Mike Mignola's fascination with ghosts and monsters began at an early age; reading Dracula at age twelve introduced him to Victorian literature and folklore, from which he has never recovered. Starting in 1982 as a bad inker for Marvel Comics, he swiftly evolved into a not-so-bad artist. By the late 1980s, he had begun to develop his own unique graphic style, with mainstream projects like Cosmic Odyssey and Batman: Gotham by Gaslight. In 1994, he published the first Hellboy series through Dark Horse. There are thirteen Hellboy graphic novels (with more on the way), several spin-off titles (B.P.R.D., Lobster Johnson, Abe Sapien, and Sir Edward Grey: Witchfinder), prose books, animated films, and two live-action films starring Ron Perlman. Along the way he worked on Francis Ford Coppola's film Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992), was a production designer for Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001), and was the visual consultant to director Guillermo del Toro on Blade II (2002), Hellboy (2004), and Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008). Mike's books have earned numerous awards and are published in a great many countries. Mike lives in Southern California with his wife, daughter, and cat.

Sebastian Fiumara is a comic book artist known for his work on Abe Sapien, Ender's Shadow, Loki, Lobster Johnson, The Amazing Spider-Man, Superboy, and many other works.

is by far one of my favorite Dark Horse series a.must read for any Fans of BPRD or Hellboy on to the next book

I love where the series is going and how it's coinciding with BPRD: Hell on Earth. Looking forward to the next one.

This one feels really incomplete, it is hard to figure what is going on if you have not read enough of BPRD to be caught up on the whole frog thing, and I just plain like BPRD stories that are more self contained in general. The other 2 Ape Sapien books stood on their own much better, I thought, and I liked them more.

Still, pretty solid work; the art is lovely, I like the sketchbook stuff in the back, etc. If your preference is for big arc with lots of consequences, or if you have read all the other war on frogs stuff and you like it, then you may like this book more than I did.

I really liked the first two Abe Sapien trade paperbacks, because I was looking for more-or-less self-contained stories that focused on Abe (my favourite Hellboy character) more.... Much to my dismay, the collection of vignettes from the first two books becomes, at this point, a continuous, plodding series, which failed to really capture my interest. Apparently it was written to tie heavily into the BPRD Hell on Earth series? I'm just not into the lovecraftian apocalypse zombie horror thing, I guess. I find this one pretty uninspired, overall, to boot. I was hoping for more of the subtle, varied, and visually beautiful stuff from the first two trade paperbacks, and got a bunch of dusty gore, instead. I dunno. Not my thing. I might have liked it for one volume, before moving on to something else, but apparently this is what the Abe Sapien title consists of now. I don't intend to buy more of these, unfortunately. Unless they come out with a collection of flashback stories from pre-apocalypse??

5.0 out of 5 stars Mignola-verse, la fin d'un monde (le notre), à travers les yeux de Abe Sapien
Reviewed in France on January 24, 2014

5.0 out of 5 stars Richtig gut !

Chronologisch gehört er wohl hinter A cold day in hell.
