Stan Lee is a man who needs no introduction. Nevertheless: Having begun his career with wartime Timely Comics and staying the course throughout the Atlas era, Stan the Man made comic-book history with Fantastic Four #1, harbinger of a bold new perspective in story writing that endures to this day. With some of the industry’s greatest artists, he introduced hero after hero in Incredible Hulk, Amazing Spider-Man, X-Men and more — forming a shared universe for rival publishers to measure themselves against. After an almost literal lifetime of writing and editing, Lee entered new entertainment fields and earned Marvel one opportunity after another. He remains one of Marvel’s best-known public representatives.

-----------------

Stan Lee was the best spiderman writer. Those old stories were clear, less complicated with a good humor and fun.i recomend this as a reader for those old issues to all who love the older days comic books.

The epic collection of stories around the time that Peter Parker's girlfriend, Gwen Stacy lost her father because of a battle between Spider-Man and Doc Ock are great. Spiderman faces such villains as, in addition to Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Kraven, Vampire named Moribus and Peter Parker confronts the drug pusher who gets Harry Osborne addicted. Spidey also grows four extra arms.

Another reviewer wrote that page 12 is missing from every issue, which concerned me, but this was published when the art sometimes shared space with ads. In this edition the page 12s are on the top half of the page 13s. The numbering is in the lower left-hand corner of the last panel of each original page. Much nicer to read it this way!

Well these seem to be reprinted from Marvel Tales and not the original appearances in Amazing Spider-Man--I've only checked the Goblin story, which I already had and was hoping to replace for less than a thousand bucks, and each episode is missing a page (always page 12 it seems). Am I wrong? Now I have to fly east, prowl through my storage unit and hope I didn't sell my originals (can't remember--I sold a lot of stuff once upon a time...). Perfect idea for a collection, but $40? Really? 'Cause, you know, the writers and artists aren't getting a royalty check.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spidey gets Darker
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 24, 2023
Stan Lee was preparing to get out of comics by this point having now lost Jack Kirby as well as Steve Ditko and this gave the title a chance to go a little more off offbeat.

Some of the old Ditko angst returns here as Peter Parker struggles against his own contradictions and his 2 biggest foes Doctor Octopus and the Green Goblin.

Both of these are decent appearances compared to what followed a few years later.
