Aquaman (2011-2016) Vol. 7: Exiled (Aquaman Series) Kindle & comiXology

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 138 ratings

A startling new look and direction for Aquaman!

Two worlds—two empires—occupying the same space. The magic that once separated them is fading fast. Now, with the shadow world of Thule threatening to consume Atlantis, Earth, and beyond, only Atlantis' king, the hero known as Aquaman, can stop the invasion.

But Aquaman soon discovers there's far more to Thule and its inhabitants than meets the eye. When he refuses to carry out his mission and destroy the invading world, he's branded a traitor by both his kingdom and his Queen, Mera.

Exiled and on the run from his reigning consort and Atlantis' mightiest hunters, Aquaman—now exhibiting an array of all-new powers—must act alone in trying to stop Thule from obliterating everything he holds dear. But even if he succeeds, how will the exiled king ever be able to reconcile with his city...or a fiercely determined Mera?

From writer Cullen Bunn (SINESTRO, LOBO) and artists including Trevor McCarthy (BATWOMAN, KLARION) and Vicente Cifuentes (BATGIRL, BIRDS OF PREY), AQUAMAN VOL. 7: EXILED collects AQUAMAN #41-48 and DC SNEAK PEEK: AQUAMAN #1.

I choose this rating because this book is AWESOME!
I liked because the illustrater and how he put a lot of effort into his art and made almost everything detailed and interesting. Yes there may have been one or two mistakes but it's still awesome!
I would recommend this book to my friend Chole because she loves art and comics so I'm sure she'd love this!

Finally Aquaman gets the power upgrade boost he so long deserved!! No matter that it was short lived. This was a great book!!

I've happily collected each Aquamn volume since the start of the New 52. Geoff Johns's run on Aquaman was fantastic. I don't think there are many that would dispute that. Jeff Parker was a noticeable change, but his stories kept me on the edge of my seat in ways Johns never did. Then came Cullen Bunn. His style is much more in your face. This is like Aquaman the action movie. There is a lot of inner dialog from Arthur. Like a lot. But to be honest, that's pretty much my only gripe with this volume. That and the fact that it starts in such a different place from where Vol. 6 ended. I kind of expected that though. New writer. New direction. It's just how it works.

The new weapon is awesome. I say weapon because it's no ordinary trident. The new powers are exactly what Aquaman was missing; for me at least. Unless I missed something, the new outfit is never "officially" explained. It's noticed, but not explained. No big deal.

I don't want to give anything away, but this volume isn't as bad as the other reviewers are saying it is. Aquaman is still a badass. Even more so now. Mera doesn't get as much page time as she did in Maelstrom, and there isn't as much of her wit as I was beginning to fall in love with, but she's still Mera and she is irreplaceable. This volume brings lots of changes and possibly too much refreshment to an already great title. It was over too soon to say the least, and I can't wait to see what happens next. I hope the next book gives a little more page time to Aquaman's supporting cast, but whatever happens, I can honestly say that I read the book and I'm still a fan.

I'd gone I to the New 52 Aquaman series hearing from everyone that the Johns run was the best and that this volume was the absolute worst thing ever. I ended up not liking the Johns run much (it felt like a big dumb anime, and Throne of Atlantis just made everyone an idiot), and this short break in the flow of the series didn't end up being too bad. Some characterizations are weird at times, but I had fun in the end. This volume also finally introduces Garth, even if he's not Aqualad at all.

Great story!

Exiled brings on Cullen Bunn for a single volume story arc. Tensions between the kingdom of Atlantis and their king are normal. However, Thule is invading and now the loyalties of King Arthur are being called into question by even those closest to him. I felt like Exiled is the most convoluted volume in the series, jumping around in chronological order before settling into a joined timeline. The art is dense and bold, yet dark. The coloring is rich. It was a lonely story for Arthur, but that could be transferring to me what the creators were intending Arthur to feel, too. Maybe it’s the new armor, but this never fully felt like an Aquaman book to me. It seemed like a story that slapped the Aquaman face on, and even then the face is unfamiliar. Maybe if you’re wanting to complete your New52 collection, I’d say get this volume. Otherwise, there is plenty of good Aquaman before and after vol.7.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good continuation of the series

On the whole I am continuing to enjoy this series. This is my first Aquaman series so I don’t know how it stands against the cannon of former Aquaman stories but I do feel that this is developing the lore of Atlantis well. This story continues to explore the past of Atlantis while exploring Arthur’s place within the worlds he occupies. The first two issues use two time periods to create an effective mystery whilst not outstaying it’s welcome. There is a problematic moment about halfway through with the main villain that I wasn’t a fan of but it didn’t detract from the story as a whole.
Overall quite a good read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not The Best Aquaman Story.

I'm a big Cullen Bunn fan but this was definitely not his best writing. Some of the art was nice and the story was ok.

For the limited amount of Aquaman trades out there this is still worth reading though.
