Mark Waid, a New York Times bestselling author, has written for a wider variety of well-known pop-culture characters and franchises than any other American author, from Superman to Star Wars to the Justice League to Archie to Spider-Man and many, many others. His award-winning work with artist Alex Ross, KINGDOM COME, is one of the best-selling graphic novels of all time. (Secretly, however, he prefers SUPERMAN: BIRTHRIGHT and his IRREDEEMABLE collections as his favorite works he's produced.)

Additionally, Waid is a leader in the digital comics medium. His publishing imprint, Thrillbent.com, hosts an enormous collection of multimedia stories in all genres.

With over thirty years of experience in his field, Waid happily mentors young writers and maintains a blog at www.markwaid.com that is full of advice for beginning writers and experienced authors both.

A little over the halfway point now and this event has become somewhat sidetracked. This ends up being a good thing, as it gives us a chance to be reintroduced to a returning Marvel character. After a long and complicated history of character rights Conan the Barbarian has returned to the Marvel Universe. Marvel has been making a big deal of this and I'm not surprised to see him make his appearance here. If you read the extras last issue you'll know this is something writer Jim Zub was really excited about and he was given the chance to lead the writing of Conan and Scarlet Witch's part of the story. As someone who doesn't know a lot about Conan this is a great introduction to him and his world and the way he works with Scarlet Witch is fun to watch. Without him, the currently blind Wanda would have no chance of retrieving the lost Shard of Night from this past age. Beyond their adventure, the only other team we get back to are Hulk, Rocket, and Hawkeye in Nightmare's Realm. Though Nyx is our main villain I'll say that keeping an eye on Hulk might be a good idea. Sean Izaakse is still our artist, and it continues to impress. The main draw of this issue was Conan, which is likely why the issue was extra-sized. This is a fantastic series worth checking out.
5/5

*(Speculation: I'm predicting this series will bring Conan into the present day for his appearance in the upcoming Savage Avengers but we'll see.)
