This book begins with Ryouta Sakamoto- 22, unemployed for 2 years and #10 worldwide and #1 in Japan in the virtual world of the online game BTOOOM!, a world which he has become addicted to, never leaving his room except for the natural to-and-fros of normal life. Then, all of a sudden, he wakes up hanging from a tree in a tropical forest- from a parachute. With no memory of recent events, our unfortunate nerd quickly realizes that he now has to play his favourite game, where he conquers all, in real life.
Brilliant story premise, the main character is a fresh breath of air from all the shonen and Higurashi I've been reading, the art is beautiful, and the changes Ryota goes through on the island really leave you wondering: is he really willing to give up his moral code for survival? WARNING: NOT FOR THOSE UNDER 18!
