I write comic books! Growing up, I always wanted to write comics, but I ended up trying my hand at fiction first. I got my MFA from Columbia University, published a book of short stories with The Dial Press in 2006 called Voodoo Heart, then finally broke into comics in 2009 and haven't looked back since. I've worked extensively for DC Comics, writing such titles as Batman, Detective Comics, Justice League, the comic event books DC Dark Knights Metal and Death Metal, and Swamp Thing, among others. I've also created a number of series with some great co-creators and partners -- books like We Have Demons, Clear, Night of the Ghoul, Nocterra, American Vampire, Wytches, the Wake, AD: After Death, and more... I live in NY with my wife, Jeanie and our three boys. I am also a big fan of Elvis Presley.

The New 52. There are more and more titles coming out of it and DC seems to be hitting their stride. There are multiple Batman titles and it is nice to see more than a couple that are very well done. Capullo and Snyder are my top team so far and I love what they are doing - story wise. The art and story compliment each other very nicely and this is the case with most of the other Batman books. I was a little apprehensive about another book being released but after reading it, I found that I had no need to worry at all. This is yet another example of DC teaming up an artist and a writer that compliment each other's style very well. This is not limited to just the Batman books either, look at some of the other books and they are doing it with many of them. My hardcover library is swelling with "New 52" titles and after reading Batman Eternal, it will have a new title joining the ranks. This is written by Scott Snyder and the artist is Jay Fabok. Snyder just seems to know how to write Batman stories that grab the reader and keep our excitement levels up. He gives us a Batman that is not only a man of action but also a man who has delegated his (not insubstantial) resources very well. The Detective that crackles with kinetic energy. This story did what many other Snyder Batman stories do, it grabbed me and held me, riveted to the pages, turning them at a fairly rapid clip until I got to the last page and once again found myself wanting more. I find it very hard to wait for the next installments of Snyder's stories and when I do get them, I once again move through it in one sitting, be it one issue or a hardcover with six issues. Batman Eternal is fast paced, smart, filled with action, and I think it will be here for as long as Snyder wishes it to be. I will be reading every page with great enthusiasm!

Batman Eternal #1 kicks off this new weekly series with a bang or rather two. The first is a flash forward to a Gotham in flames and what follows will lead us in 52 issues to that scene. Who is behind Gotham in flames? And who knows who Batman really is? What follows is a great study in duality (an important theme in Batman); new recruit to GCPD (and making his new 52 debut quite unheralded) is a young cop from Detroit named Jason Bard. In pre new 52 continuity Bard was a one time love interest of Barbara Gordon, an associate of Dinah Lance and her family, a former GCPD cop and a PI who assisted Batman once in awhile. Never a major player, he is getting great treatment here as we follow his arrival in Gotham and meets the major players in the GCPD (Maggie Sawyer, Harvey Bullock, Jim Gordon, and Forbes-who you know right away isn't any good at all). This is fouled with Batman and Gordon rescuing a group of kids from Professor Pyg and his dollotrons. These two stories come together at the end and show us why Scott Synder is the best Batman writer working today. There is a stand out scene where Bard and Gordon come face to face and there are some great striking similarities, as if Jim Gordon is looking into a mirror of his you herself, which makes me wonder if they aren't foreshadowing a re visitation of the Bard/Barbara romance. More than any other panel, that one stood out to me. Great start to what promises to be an exciting 52 weeks of reads.

This is a thing for Batman followers. It is a graphic comic so you may want to check this out before giving a child access to it.

I don't read comic books too often, but this felt like a good one to start with. I look forward to reading the rest of this.

had high high hopes for this one as a long time batman fan. This could have gone the route of "Long Halloween" or even "Hush". A year long story that although has multiple side plots, manages to condense it and make the story flow in a understandable way.
Batman Eternal does not do this. There's a "main" plot going on and many misdirections on who is "behind it all" but the story is so jumbled and convoluted you will have a hard time piecing it all together. Well I appreciate Snyders effort I feel he did too much with the amount of time he had as multiple characters and stories seem to be thrown together "just because".

Apart from the top five which everyone tells you to read. DKR, Long Halloween, Year one, Killing Joke, and Arkham Asylum, a few more obscure titles I would recommend are

"Batman and the Monster Men", "Batman: The Man who Laughs", Batman Earth One".

All books much much more enjoyable than this.

Great start to this series. Leaves me wanting more. The art work is superb. Dark and gritty, just the way Batman should be.
