I write comic books! Growing up, I always wanted to write comics, but I ended up trying my hand at fiction first. I got my MFA from Columbia University, published a book of short stories with The Dial Press in 2006 called Voodoo Heart, then finally broke into comics in 2009 and haven't looked back since. I've worked extensively for DC Comics, writing such titles as Batman, Detective Comics, Justice League, the comic event books DC Dark Knights Metal and Death Metal, and Swamp Thing, among others. I've also created a number of series with some great co-creators and partners -- books like We Have Demons, Clear, Night of the Ghoul, Nocterra, American Vampire, Wytches, the Wake, AD: After Death, and more... I live in NY with my wife, Jeanie and our three boys. I am also a big fan of Elvis Presley.

A must own story
If you're in to comics you'll love to have this in your collection, but if you're a Batman fan it's a must own. It's a great story and the essential edition line includes a bunch of artwork, variant covers and a lot of other goodies. The court of owls is an already famous Batman story so you already know you are adding something special to your comic collection.

*Copied from my review on Goodreads*

While I’ve been a fan of superheroes, and Batman in particular, for as long as I can remember, I didn’t really start reading comics until I was in high school and DC launched the New 52. Of the titles I subscribed to at the time, Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Batman was easily the best of the bunch, and it started with The Court of Owls Saga, which is collected here. I absolutely loved it at the time and couldn’t wait to read each issue when they came out, especially when the other titles I was reading at the time all struggled with some degree of inconsistency as they shifted creative teams or got pulled into larger events (darn you, Avengers vs X-Men). I reread each issue multiple times, and then the whole story when it was complete; it was that good!

So now, rereading it nearly a decade later as an adult, I find myself loving it just as much, if not more than, I did back then. You get the full Batman in this story, along with fascinating new villains, stakes that feel real, and incredible artwork from Greg Capullo. One of the other great things about this is that you don’t need to be caught up on years of backstory for this to make sense, you just need a basic understanding of the Batman mythos, which a lot of people have anymore courtesy of his dominance of most forms of entertainment.

If you’ve never gotten into comics and are curious about them, or if you’ve been a fan for years and have never read this, I would definitely recommend that you pick up The Court of Owls Saga, as it is a modern classic within superhero comics.

A stretch of your imagination, a suspension of your disbelief, and it's a rich, enjoyable, bat swinging ride. Recommend a large , good screen for the detailed artwork.

I bought this book so I didn’t have to buy volumes 1 and 2 individually. I love this book so much. This made me love Scott Snyder’s work. At first, I was skeptical about Greg Capullo and his art style because it looked matte and i thought it looked “blocky.” However, I was so surprised when I got the book! I was expecting Jim Lee(whose art I adore) type art, but Greg’s art style is amazing! He is now my second favorite Batman artist EVER behind Jim Lee! The story is amazing and I couldn’t recommend it enough if you are looking for a great story and amazing art! The court of owls definitely goes up there alongside the Long Halloween, TDKR, Hush, and a death in the Family!

Wow. This story surprised me. I had heard that it was on the top lists for best recent comic arches but now I understand why. The flow of Snyders story-telling just works. I feel like there is a lot going on and can feel that way as well, but I never really felt lost. I have been following his more recent works in the Justice league and also stories over at Image that are creator owned and he is a fantastic story-teller.

The ONLY reason I am giving this 4 stars is that there are pretty jarring quality problems where the pages will invert for about 6 pages and you have to read it Manga style, then it reverts back to normal. Was confused and took me out of the story a little but that is it.

The actual story is a 5 star in my opinion.

I've been a huge Batman fan for as long as I could remember and have read majority of his greatest stories ( Year one, Dark Knight Returns, Long Halloween etc etc) so when I was told how good the Court of Owls was I absolutely had to look into it. After all I was a huge fan of Scott Snyder's early run with Batman in the Black Mirror which was also top-class. Simply-put, the story did not disappoint. Bruce is confronted by a new threat unlike any other and it's fascinating to see how he deals with it throughout. It may not be the oldest Batman story ever told but the Court of Owls is definitely right up there with the very best. Definite must-read for any comic book fan in general.

I gave it 5 stars because as much as I like the films my love for Batman originated from the original Animated Series and for me the Court of Owls is my Animated series grown up. Some of the surprises were predictable, but almost every page was entertaining none the less.

A nursery rhyme about the vengeance of the Court of Owls has frightened the children of Gotham for decades but, when a body is found next to a macabre message indicating Bruce Wayne will die, Batman must confront the fact that even nursery rhymes may have a basis in truth.

Snyder's vibrant tale recharges the 'Batman' mythos and the plot, artwork, colouring and layout all contribute to making this an absorbing experience.

I bought the DC Essentials "Court of Owl Saga" for my collection after having read Snyder and Capullo's iconic run already. One of my favourite arcs from their run, I was happy to own the entire Court of Owls saga collected as one book, complete with a brand new original cover by Greg Capullo himself, as well as some extra stuff. If you've never read comics, or specifically Snyder and Capullo's Batman run, this is a great book to pick up as a solid standalone story featuring one of Gotham's coolest group of villains - The Court of Owls. Or if you're like me, you just can't resist having this amazing story all bound up in one book for your collection.
