As a kid growing up in the 70's and early 80's, I got a chance to see classic Battlestar Galactica when it first aired on TV. And over the years since, I have watched it on reruns, on vhs, dvd, and now I have the Blu-rays. This show, the classic from 1978, has always meant a great deal to me. I even tracked down and purchased all the novelizations that creator Glen A. Larson put out (most of which are novelizations of the tv episodes with some interesting extras, but a few are original stories). And I also picked up all the novels that Richard Hatch put out. But comics, comics are another story.

I knew they existed, but not really being comic book knowledgeable, I didn't have much of a clue where to begin and wasn't too keen on trying to track them all down. And then, one day, while I was checking up here on Amazon just to see if anything interesting might turn up while searching Battlestar Galactica, I found this Omnibus, Volume 1, of classic Battlestar Galactica comics!

It truly is everything the advertisement at Amazon says it is. After all this time, to get new stories with the original crew. I'm so happy! I'm reading through it right now. And so far, the flavor is about what the show was. The banter seems to fit fairly well, I can imagine the actors voices while reading this.

The art it beautiful. Not 100 percent precise, not exact duplication, there are hands at work here with some originality, but is very clear who is who (Commander Adama however, is looking a bit more strong, more youthful than the series). The paper seems good and thick to me, and the colors are striking, they really look good. I'm trying to be gentle with the binding. It seems ok, but it's difficult to say how durable it may or may not be. Best to be on the safe side and be gentle.

It's so awesome to see these characters flying vipers, taking on the cylons, and dealing with friendship and family in a ragtag fleet in space. I look forward to any more volumes of classic Battlestar Galactica! Bring them on!

Really does a great job building off the original series and characters! Highly recommended They even made Galactica 1980 work!

Was surprised at how enjoyable this omnibus of Battlestar Galactica. The writers and artists did their homework. All the characters are spot on with their tv versions. The stories engrossing and flows.
Was surprised in Galactica 80, that this "revised" version of the BG spinoff was so engrossing. Hard to take at times, but it all made sense. The quote from the Old Testament was appropriate as Commander Adama finally makes it Earth, but will never really "enter the Promised Land." For a long time, I've felt that the Star Trek, Doctor Who, and Star Wars franchises have exhausted themselves, but I would love to see more BG stories similar to this continue. Maybe the comics companies should look at other television programs to work on.

As a fan of the original “Battlestar Galactica,” I enjoyed this collection of comics, featuring two stories showcasing the first TV series and even a reimagining of “Galactica 1980” which was far more interesting than that series. There are some fine moments here and some fun scenes while the various art teams generally do a fine job. The various writers do an excellent job of capturing the characters and the themes of the original show. Fans of the series--I still can’t believe it’s four decades old which reminds me of how old I am--will enjoy this collection of comics. Highly recommended.

If you go by the philosophy of "bad battlestar is better than no battlestar" you are going to like this. The characters are for the most part unrecognizable. There were only one or two faces that looked like the actors. The charaterizations were not even close. The dialog frequently seemed "cookie cutter", could've been lifted from any old conflict story. And the stories! They were not particularly clever. From almost the first few pages I could tell the authors had things wrong. The chief reason I didn't like the modern series was that none of the characters were people I could like. This was the same. The characters I loved from the original series would not have said these things nor done what this put forth.

That being sad, all was not bad. I did enjoy how the authors wove in references to the original series. They even tried to tie in the modern series. (They identified Adama as Troykus Adama, yet called him Bill in places.)

Overall this was interesting but could've been so much better.

Storylines are trite, characterizations are as if the writer never saw the actual show. The artwork is standard early 21st century overstated fare; cylons and spaceships look pretty good, the actual people? Meh, at best.

Nice to read stories from the original BSG which I was and still am a big fan of. Well worth buying if you are a fan, but I found the stories a little bit too much Starbuck centric. Otherwise no regrets as I bought the second volume which in my opinion was a better read.

1.0 out of 5 stars Amazon Warehouses damage these items

I bought this twice from Amazon and both times the pages fell off the book binder. I think Amazon's warehouses are too hot and it melts the glue used in these books. Beware.
