First of all, Howard Chaykin's depraved and explicit world of Black Kiss is definitely NOT for everyone -- especially young readers.
As a fan of the original, I thoroughly enjoyed this prequel. Revisiting characters like Beverly Grove and Bubba Kenton and their twisted adventures into darkness and filth among various socialites against the backdrop of the film industry, focusing on specific incidents during each decade of the 20th century, was both entertaining and illuminating.
While much of the visuals and concepts are often confronting, there is a definite artistic quality to them ... along with cultural significance.
While Black Kiss 2 may not be quite as groundbreaking or as intricate as the original, it is an excellent companion piece nonetheless.
Hopefully, Chaykin is not finished with the world of Black Kiss just yet ... I'd love to see a Black Kiss 3 get published!

Black Kiss II Kindle & comiXology
Nearly 25 years ago, HOWARD CHAYKIN brought the '80s to a close, and comics to the brink, with his landmark erotic thriller, BLACK KISS. Now, after years of anticipation, he's back with BLACK KISS II, telling the story behind that legendary story - like the original, in glorious black and white. And really, now -- does it have to be so dirty?

About the Author
Howard Chaykin is a longtime veteran of the comic book business, serving as an artist and writer for nearly every publisher of comics in the past four decades…and counting. He took the ’90s off to work on mostly unwatchable television, so he missed the money and dreck that was comics in that execrable decade. He is responsible, some might say culpable, for introducing a number of previously unexplored themes to comic books. If you're not hip to what that's supposed to mean, there's always Wikipedia.

I didn't like this as much as the original. I still liked the art but the stories really didn't work in my opinion. I just expected more... I would still say that if your a fan then it would fit in your collection.

Would have been better in colour
Reviewed in Canada on March 17, 2017
I would not classify this as erotic. Think of it more as Sin City with a greater number of sexual references. Would have been better in colour.
This is like something you might see in the magazine "heavy metal". It is an interesting read.

I've loved Chaykin ever since I first read American Flagg

I've loved Chaykin ever since I first read American Flagg. Transsexual vampires and sleazy heroes - the back story to the first volume and a sequel of sorts.
