Mark Crilley was raised in Detroit, where he started drawing almost as soon as he could hold a pencil in his hand. After graduating from Kalamazoo College in 1988, where he was befriended by children’s author David Small, he taught English in Taiwan and Japan for nearly five years. His first comic series, AKIKO, was published in 1995, garnering immediate critical praise, including 13 Eisner award nominations during its 53-issue run. In 1998 Crilley was named one of the "100 Most Creative People in Entertainment" by Entertainment Weekly Magazine, leading Random House to invite him to adapt his Akiko comic books as a series of ten prose-fiction novels for young readers. After the two-book BILLY CLIKK series in 2005, Crilley created his first manga-style graphic novel series, MIKI FALLS, a set of four paperbacks published by HarperCollins in 2007. Miki Falls was chosen by the American Library Association as one of the 2007's “Great Graphic Novels for Teens," and it was optioned by Paramount Pictures and Brad Pitt’s Plan B Production Studio for development as a feature film. Also in 2007, Crilley launched his highly popular YouTube channel, which would go on to gain him more than 300 million video views, and a following of more than 2.5 million subscribers. In 2010 Dark Horse Comics published the first of six BRODY'S GHOST graphic novels, resulting in Scholastic releasing a special edition of the series for its book fairs, a first for both Crilley and Dark Horse. In 2012 Crilley released his most successful book yet, MASTERING MANGA, an instructional art book that would soon be published in eight languages and rank consistently among the top-selling books of its kind. MASTERING MANGA 2 and 3 would soon follow. 2015 saw the publication of THE REALISM CHALLENGE by Watson-Guptill, a book teaching hyperrealistic illustration techniques, followed by THE DRAWING LESSON in 2016, a graphic novel that blends narrative fiction with art instruction. Crilley’s work has been featured in USA Today, Entertainment Weekly, and on CNN Headline News and Comcast On Demand. He lives in Michigan with his wife, Miki, and children, Matthew and Mio.

I absolutely love these Graphic Novels, Mark Crilley is an amazing artist!!! I follow his YouTube Channel and have learned many things from his teachings so I'd like to say "Thx Mark, for helping me to advance a bit further into the world of artistry" in case you ever read this. Your how to video's are very helpful! This book is for people of all ages the only really bad parts is the violence, but even that's left to a minimum. I must say though out of all the characters Talia is by far my favorite hands down with Brody in a close second! I'm very interested to see where you take this series and so I will be waiting in suspense for each new additional volume till this story reaches its completion! For the new up coming readers out there thinking 'Should I purchase this?'

I highly recommend giving it a read it might surprise you! (In all honesty I usually don't read Graphic Novel's like this, but I heard a lot of praise about it and it got me curious... Now I can't stop) I don't want to go too far into it because I'm sure the spoiler will ruin it for you... Kinda like when you get tickets to see a movie your friends already seen, but they sit there and narrate every detail that happens in the movie before you get the chance to actually see it. So I'm simply going to leave it at this :) hope you guys enjoy it.

Excellent! Mark Crilley both writes and illustrates a compelling story. I'm giving these books to my nephew, but I read them first. I think I enjoy them almost as much as he does! Would love to see this story on the big screen as either live-action or animated, they would rival the Marvel, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings movies! ( I'm re-posting this review on each book in the series, as long as my opinion doesn't change)

I bought this book mainly to study Crilley's renderings of the characters because I got interested in drawing Manga. Well, this book provides me not only with drawing up closeup views but also from different perspective. Add to that his storyline of befriending a beautiful young ghost girl adds to the intrigue. Only drawback: When his ex-girlfriend Nicole, calls the police, I thought that there were more pages coming to show how the story ends. Instead, he gives a detail account of his thoughts on how he created this character or that scene, and it wasn't until the very last page that it shows that this is just Book 1 of 4.

What would you do if you knew things that no one else knew, but had no way to prove it. What if you used to be an abusive jerk, but turned your life around? Now you know for a fact that your ex-girlfriend will be murdered, but she is afraid of you due to your violent past? There is a lot more depth to this story than the art style hints at.

In many ways its a classic hero tail, but with the twist that the princess is deathly afraid of her hero.

Here again Crilley has marveled the reader. (well as far as I am concerned) With each addition to this story it draws you in to what has been going on in the world from Brody's perspective. This series is definitely worth reading, and the purchase, if you have decided to buy it.

+Good Story
+Great Artwork
+Interesting Characters

I really do recommend this to any that are interested in supporting "Local" Manga Novelists...Crilley is an inspiration to not only many aspiring young artist, but to myself as well.

This is the best volume out of the series thus far, and I am very impressed with Mark Crilley's writing. In comparison to the previous three books, the fourth is darker and grittier. Before I read the new volume, I felt the story was somewhat predictable. However, I was surprised by the plot twists and suspense in this book, and I cannot wait for the last two volumes!

Please, keep up the great work, Mark Crilley! I will continue to support you by purchasing your work!

I love it!
Normally, I don't read manga, but this one, it has my full attention. And while I don't like Brody's ex, I very much like Brody and Talia. They're funny. And since I don't usually like female characters, this is saying a lot - me liking Talia!
I also like the dystopian feel this has.
Really good job here. :)

Unlike Miki Falls, the other series by Crilley, this one is action-packed and has a male protagonist. The final art in this one is different, too, and when you finish you have that feeling of immediately want to read the next one. If Miki Falls was more for the girls, this one is for the boys.

Ich Persönlich bin ich sehr begeistert von Mr.Crilleys werken.
Desweiteren kann ich nur sagen das seine Geschichten keiner alters Beschränkung unterliegen, sowohl Jung als auch Alt können sich gut dafür begeistern.
