4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 131 ratings

Yutaka Kanzaki, a wine critic whose reviews have enough clout to move the industry worldwide, has died—leaving behind a wine collection worth over two billion yen. Only the one who can name his favorite bottles, plus vintages, will inherit this dream of a cellar. It's a battle between Yutaka's biological son Shizuku and adopted child Issei to identify these "Twelve Apostles"—along with the very best wine in his collection, the so-called "Drops of God."

Hard to believe the tv program was based on this manga. I’ve only read this first volume and can’t wait to read the rest. I wish they were all out in kindle though since the hard or paperbacks are rare and expensive. It’s a deep dive into what wine tasters experience as well.

I love niche genres, but this one takes the cake. I'm a huge fan of serials like this, and 'The Way of the House Husband'.

A nice introduction to wine for young and old readers. The graphics are well done and the bottles of wines are clear and have a good description of fragrance and terroir.

I don’t drink wine at all, but I have definitely enjoyed this story which has a Tampopo like quality to it. I read it in one sitting.

I like Manga but I'm not a connoisseur. Thanks to Amazon, I got to try some titles I'd never heard of before. Most of the titles I've seen before are science fiction and action, but this was a totally unexpected treat, a story about wines. If you completely dislike wine you might be put off but I had fun reading this stealthy educational book hiding inside a soap opera. It goes for several volumes and might run out of steam at some point but for now I'm intrigued.

I don't know a lot about wine and a lot of this stuff goes over my head...but gosh this is so good in story, characters and plot and would be good for wine taster vets or know nothings alike.

I’ve waited years for this manga to get a new adaptation and this hasn’t disappointed so far. It’s gonna be a great journey reading the manga that got me to try so many wines that I turned out to not like all that much anyways.

Just when you think that You’ve seen pretty much everything, Someone comes along and put a manga about drinking wine. I mean there’s already one about playing go and baking bread, why not wine.

Anyways the story follows the son of a famous wine connoisseur and critic who in order to inherit his fathers wealth has to undergo a bunch of different tests. If he fails all of his money father’s wealth and collection will go to another wine critic who will auction the collection off. There’s a cute girl in the form of another sommelier. And lots and lots and lots of wine and infodump. That’s the reason why the story gets knocked down a star. There’s an art to imparting information that doesn’t feel like you’re reading Wikipedia. And unfortunately the way that this manga does it is very very dry.

Four stars.
