Pulp comic revival! Great comic, can be slightly shallow at times but still one of my favorite current series. The story follows Fabian Gray, a treasure hunter/thief who, through a tragic turn of events, became possessed by five "literary" ghosts; an archer, a samurai, a detective, a wizard, and a vampire. The story is compelling and interesting, and while it definitely is a pulp serial comic always ending on a cliff hanger and never actually reaching any point where the story might resolve, it still holds up as a great story, especially for the lovers of pulps out there like me. Mooneyhams artwork is spectacular and the coloring is way better than in the first volume. For anyone interested, if you haven't read the first volume, read that first.
My only complaints are that they don't utilize some of the plot aspects to their fullest potential, like some of the "ghosts" in particular. For instance, the Detective is a pretty shallow aspect that they use in order to ascertain pretty basis things like a hole in a wall etc. I do have faith, however, that this will simply be a hurdle that they will overcome with more time and more issues.
Overall terrific series, can't wait until volume 3 drops!

Great title. I only wish there was more of it.

Volume 2 was just as good as volume 1. The continuing adventures of Fabian Gray are riveting and filled with intrigue and violence. The forces arrayed against him from the Dreaming are at and powerful. Gretchen graphic novel and overall a fresh approach in comics.

It's unusual to find a book like Five Ghosts nowadays, which delves into pulp nonsense with so little restraint. That said, volume two's delving is much less enthusiastic of the first, and the writers seem to be too tired of their old tropes to inflate them to their full majesty. The protagonist's very few rough edges from the first volume have been sanded down, leaving him entirely featureless. The art, which initially was stark and pulpy, sags into a mignola-fied version of modern comic design. Still more distinctive than most modern comics, which isn't saying much.
Despite these flaws and the decline since the first volume, there are some moments of swashbuckling that work well and some points when the art saves the writing, which declines faster. I hoped for better after volume one, and I may not buy the next one. I'd only recommend this to people who really loved the first volume and demand more.

Immediately after reading Vol. 1: The Haunting of Fabian Gray, I had to dive right into Volume Two!

My thoughts:
I enjoyed this volume a lot! I found it far less confusing than the first and less rushed. Of course, this volume was much longer than the first, so we were able to get more content as well.

I really enjoyed learning about Fabian's past in this volume and how he and his sister had trained together once long ago. I also enjoyed that we were introduced to a new character named Jezebel, who also has dreamstone embedded in her face and also has a "ghost."

Again, I thought that the artwork and coloring was absolutely stunning. There were many pages where the artwork guided the story, which I always love.

My favorite line:
We've all made deals with the devil. It's where we go from there that counts.

I could not put this volume down! I cannot wait to get my hands on Volume 3.

Five Ghosts Volume 2: Lost Coastlines is composed of two parts, a one-shot comic set in Japan, and a longer work in the South Pacific, still set in the 1930s, featuring pirates, plunder and the like. There is more of an emphasis on the supernatural, and this all comes to a head when Fabian Gray and his allies come to a mysterious island where impossible creatures and the dead walk among the living, and Gray is granted one wish... will he use it to save his friends or to bring his sister back to life?

This is a great action-adventure, and I can't wait for Volume 3 to come out. The introduction of more characters touched by the Dreamstone raises the stakes, and just when you thought nothing could get worse, the Nazis arrive. The mixing of genres is absolutely fantastic. This is an excellent comic, and it'll make an excellent TV show. I might even watch it. ****1/2
