I first came across this team waaay back, don't remember for sure if it was the 70s or 80s, but I really liked the idea of an alternate world where the Nazis won, and this was the resistance fighting team. Loved the concept, loved the characters. This is a fitting continuation. While I would have loved to see the original team in some cool adventures, surprisingly, I enjoyed this new group. I don't normally like when comics do that sort of thing, but here it seems to have been done with more reverence for the original group than I usually see. Well done.

Such a phenomenal read.
5/5 for both story and art

Loved the artwork and character development and how the tables are turned. Uncle Sam's spirit is charismatic and seeing Black Condor change (I won't spoil how) was great too. It also feels like a World War 2 expy with Hitler's sons.

This is pretty good. Earth x was, to me, one of the more promising universes explored in The Multiversity. Barrow’s art is great. Venditti’s character work and story are good though the plot suffers from some weird pacing in the last 3-4 issues. The world building is ok (this take on Uncle Sam, while potentially corny to some, was great for me and very Gaimanesque), but I think the book is a bit shallow in its exploration of what society as a whole would actually be like if the entire world government had been Nazi for as long as most people had been alive. One of the things that made Earth X so interesting to me in the original Mastermen issue was the potential to explore themes of collective guilt and evil. What does it mean to be born into a world so thoroughly built on mass genocide, terror, and hate (or in Overman’s case, to live through it)? What does justice even mean then? The Freedom Fighters work to tear down the Nazi establishment. What do they hope to build In its place? I feel like the series doesn’t interact with these questions with enough depth.
All that said, this is a solid book. I would definitely like to see more from this universe. A sequel focusing on Overman or the fighters working to rebuild a shattered world could be good.

A great comic book.

As an old time comic reader, who's read every possible Batman and Superman story scenario possible, it was a pleasure to see a fresh take on an underused DC property. The PlaSStic Men, Shape shifting Nazis, were truly scary!

I had gotten interested in Earth-X and wanted to check it out. I never thought I'd say "Uncle Sam is my new favorite DC character" but here I am.

Personally, I thought the world building on this one was pretty good. However, I really thought the freedom fighters, especially Uncle Sam and Black Condor, were pretty awesome. This was a nicely self-contained story with a perfect ending, for Earth X.

This is a wonderful trade collecting all 12 issues of DC's Freedom Fighters series written by Robert Venditti with art from the fantastic Eddie Barrows. I've been following the exploits of the Freedom Fighters in various incarnations over the years, and this new iteration is so kick-ass. I highly recommend this series, so grab yourself a copy today and read how the team liberates the world of Earth X from the tyrannical rule of the Nazis. You won't be disappointed!
