I am a huge fan of Marvel. And before this extremely brilliant tale about the possible destruction Scarlet Witch can unleash upon the universe, I knew nothing of the brilliance of this author Brian Michael Bendis, he’s a god of writing and story telling. Legend! Please read this if you have the chance! The art is also amazing too!! 10/10!!

I started reading Marvel trades (comic collections) with Siege, when I decided to jump back in time and read all the main "events" in sequence. House of M takes the idea flirted with in "Disassembled" to the extreme. Wanda, The Scarlet Witch, has gone insane and completely changed reality!

The story opens with the X-Men, including Charles Xavier, and the Avengers meeting to determine the fate of Wanda, who has become a danger to everyone. She caused the death of 3 Avengers, and injured many more. The story sets a dark tone right away as Emma Frost advocates for "putting her down". However, the group is split over a course of action. Meanwhile, Pietro has gone to his sister because he knows they may kill her. Suddenly, everything goes white and the world changes.

This event takes the 'What If' concept and gives it full measure. What if mutants ran the world? What if Gwen Stacy and Uncle Ben didn't die? What if Dr. Strange was never in that accident? Would they all be truly happy? Wolverine (somewhat inexplicably) knows the world is not right. When he runs into a strange mutant child, Layla, she reveals the way the world should be. Wolverine then sets out to find his allies and cause them to remember. When they confront Wanda, the world's fate hangs in the balance.

Before reading this, I had heard a lot about how amazing this event was, and what a game changer it is. All of which is true. Not only does it leave the X-Men forever altered, and the Avengers somewhat broken, it obviously lays the groundwork for Civil War: many of these "heroes" have extremely dangerous powers which begs the question, Who Watches the Watchmen? Overall, I think House of M is fantastic, with stunning artwork to complement a brilliant storyline. I can see why Bendis and Coipel have such a great reputation; I intend to read all the House of M tie-in collections to see more detail of how each hero was affected. Highly recommended!

Much to the dismay of many fans, Brian Michael Bendis' run on the Avengers saw the destruction of the team from the inside out as the Scarlet Witch's reality altering powers killed members Hawkeye, Vision, and Ant-Man; and caused much more chaos beyond that as well. House of M picks up in Genosha with Professor Xavier failing to help the Scarlet Witch reclaim her sanity, leading Xavier to unite his X-Men and the New Avengers to decide her fate. Then everything goes white. When X-Men and New Avengers member Wolverine comes to, the whole world is upside down. Mutants are the dominant species on the planet and humans are looked down upon. Magneto and his family are the royal leaders of the planet, and Wolverine is an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. who knows that this world isn't right. As he scrambles to locate his friends and team mates to find Xavier and figure out just what happened, we are given glimpses of this alternate reality, which is surprisingly well thought out and written by Bendis, who had a reputation for being a top writer with his indie-crime work and his early work on Daredevil, but has been labeled lately as being overrated and working on so many Marvel titles it's almost impossible to keep up with what he's doing. While this mega event mini-series doesn't focus on as many of the characters as one would like (there are seperate TPB's focusing on Captain America, the Hulk, Spider-Man, Iron Man, and the Dr. Doom led Fantastic Four in this alternate world) but that is forgiveable here. There's some nice art here by Olivier Coipel, and Bendis' story has plenty of twists and surprises, and an ending which actually leaves the Marvel universe in a situation it hasn't faced, and a delicious twist for Wolverine as well. All in all, House of M may be seem as yet another mega cross over mini-series, but the biggest twist here is that it's actually pretty good.

Here is a terrific follow-up to "Avengers - Disassembled.' Just what are the Avengers and X-men going to do about poor Wanda Maximov? She lost her mind, and control over her reality-altering powers, and killed a few of her Avenger friends, including Hawkeye and Vision, her husband (See "Disassembled"). Charles Xavier and Doctor Strange are trying their best to keep her from permanently destroying reality, but they can't hold out any longer. A decision has to be made.

Unfortunately for the Avengers and X-men, the decision is made for them before they can act. Wanda has disappeared, and the world as they know it has been completely wiped out and replaced with an alternate reality. Who is hiding her? Has she permanently altered the lives of everyone she cares about? Is this new reality actually better? You'll need to read this outstanding collection to find out.

The story is a wonderful take on a classic Star Trek (Next Generation - "Yesterday's Enterprise") episode where reality is totally different, but only one person seems to know what's happening. It also reminds me of some great Twilight Zone stories where you're not sure if the protagonist is the crazy one, or if it's everyone else. I won't spoil it, but needless to say, there's tons of confusion for several characters.

As the heroes gradually retain their grips on what is real and what is not, even more decisions have to be made. Is this new reality actually better? For some, maybe it is. For others, the loss is too great to bear.

The storytelling (Bendis) here is outstanding, and the art (Copiel) helps tell the story instead of overshadowing it. The cover art is exceptional. Bendis has had several classic stories (Daredevil, Ultimate Spider-Man), and this one is no exception. For Avengers fans, X-men fans, Spider-Man fans, or just fans of good comic books, this is a must-read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Síndrome do Milênio

Never been a huge X-Men fan, but this is a romp. Hardly original, alternate reality set up with only one character realising something is wrong (it's X-Men so guess which one), but done with a lot of flair, has some good tie-in stories, and actually ends with some serious consequences for the Earth's mutant population, something that would of course be eventually rebooted but not for several years.

5.0 out of 5 stars De las mejores historias de X-Men modernas
Reviewed in Mexico on March 2, 2019

The book had the corner a bit split and three pages were split on half but I don't really care about that.overall really good condition!

Really interesting story. I really like how the character reacted to the whole event creating more depth on the heroes. There were some pages where The character didn't look The best or their outfit didn't look nice particular luke cage but overall pretty good.

The next one is decimation the day after ( you don't have to but has some ''important'' information.followed by X-Men deadly genesis (the reappearance of prof.X )then you can read X-Men endangered species which prelude of messiah complex. followed by deadpool and cable messiah war and finishing with xmen second homecoming. Then read X-Men schism (there's a fight within the X-Men) culminating with avengers vs xmen comic book.

There's people who say to read Xmen Blinded by the light but don't buy it's a waste of money just download it. Not that great. And it's a bit confusing since its the sequel of supernova i think.

You can read other house of m event such as son of m. It's the story of quicksilver after losing his power caused by scarlet witch, spider man is in it too. Also X-Men The rise and fall of the shi'ar empire and xmen emperor Vulcan but you don't have to it is just an extension of the story of X-Men deadly genesis.

1.house of m
2.decimation the day after (don t have to) the first half of comic is most important.
3.X-Men deadly genesis --> rise and fall of shi'ar empire --> xmen emperor vulcan
4.Xmen endangered species
5.Xmen blinded by the light (download it don t buy it)
6.messiah complex
7.cable and deadpool messiah war
8.Xmen second homecoming
9.X-Men schism
10.Avenger vs. X-Men
