The main focus is on the grief of Namor, the Sub-Mariner and the loyalty of Captain America. Both are written well within the confines of the story. They act how we expect them to act and they are brothers of war. I love that the story is taken seriously as well, not jumping to fast into the story because it "needs to be exciting, " it's a decent story.
For me, as a fan of the golden age, other characters just aren't written with the same respect and/or care as Namor or Cap. The biggest disappointment is the original Human Torch. Throughout his long history as an android, it has been established in other stories that he is a synthetic being...close enough to almost being human. This book disregards this element and makes Torch a sophisticated robot along the lines of the Vision. I believe the decision was made only for story impact which is quickly glossed over. Ironman is also strangely written out of character. (I admit that I've not kept up with how Tony has been in the comics lately.)
All in all good read and vol 2 is good as well. Except for the Human Torch...oh and Toro is way way way in the background as well I wonder why they even bothered with him.
