"The Culling" has the Legion jammed along the Teen Titans, Superboy and a host of other heroes into one strange and not particularly interesting story which is short on character development and long on gore. There really is not much to recommend here and the writers continue to underwhelm with their take on the Legion members. If you are going to take over a comic book featuring members of a team with a dedicated fan base, a writer should actually be familiar with the characters and their history. Reading "Legion Lost," I wonder if main writer Tom DeFalco even read classic Legion comics from Paul Levitz and other writers. He seems very unfamiliar with the characters.
The art team does a solid job and there is an excellent story on Timber Wolf's origin which prevents it from getting 1 star. Still, the negatives far out weigh the positives and the poor ending does little to wrap things up. This book collects the last issues of this series which did not last a year and a half. Few will mourn the passing of this comic that simply did not gel from the get go and faded out of existence having made next to no impact.
Trapped in the present, 7 members of the Legion of Superheroes are trying to prevent a plague from mutating humanity. Except they're not. In this volume a new writer comes on board and the heroes quickly abandon their mission and get involved in a crossover with the Teen Titans and some other half forgotten comics. The whole episode is just eminently forgettable, it involves a group of villains with names like Psykill and Hammerfist who look and sound like rejects from the 90s. Then after escaping from one forgettable conspiracy they are targeted by another one, this time with a villain called Metamerican and the Metamarines! Who are about as interesting as you'd expect. There's also a rematch with the original villain of the book, who keeps acquiring whatever superpowers the plot requires.
Finally the Legionnaires fight boring villain who rides a boring dragon and... y'know, I can't even remember what happened only that I didn't care.
The book lurches to a halt as it is canceled. The Legionnaires don't get home. Nothing is accomplished. And no one, including the writer, seems to care.
