Mister Miracle (2017-2019) #1 Kindle & comiXology

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 59 ratings

From the team behind THE SHERIFF OF BABYLON and the Hugo Award-nominated writer of Vision comes a unique new take on one of Jack Kirby’s most beloved New Gods.

Scott Free is the greatest escape artist that ever lived. So great that he escaped Granny Goodness’ gruesome orphanage and the dangers of Apokolips to travel across galaxies and set up a new life on Earth with his wife, the former female fury known as Big Barda. Using the stage alter ego of Mister Miracle, he has made a career for himself showing off his acrobatic escape techniques. He even caught the attention of the Justice League, which counted him among its ranks.

You might say Scott Free has everything...so why isn’t it enough? Mister Miracle has mastered every illusion, achieved every stunt, pulled off every trick-except one. He has never escaped death. Is it even possible? Our hero is going to have to kill himself if he wants to find out.

Written by Tom King (BATMAN) and illustrated by Mitch Gerads (The Punisher), this is a MISTER MIRACLE unlike any you’ve read before.

Mr. Miracle is the greatest escape artist, but a god too. Divine affairs should be beyond the human perception and that is what makes me love this story, something has happened and is well expressed that goes beyond human eyes. The art gets perfectly with the rating as the style seems those drawings of happy families from the 60's, specially those for the life in the future, the optimism contrast with the brutal and subtle reality of the story. Although I admit to have not read the last issues this story is a personal classic. There are blank panels with the voice "Darkseid is" which I recall from the second volume of the JLA by Grant Morrison. Little details that make for a great reading.

Mr. miracle is one of if not the most interesting and captivating comics dc has published in quite a while and a fantastic entry into the new gods mythos. If you like fantastic comics, or just love great visual art, or maybe you just love wonderfully written fiction, well if any of that describes you this book can not be missed.

This comic has a lot of potential. I can only hope they will not turn it into a political tool and doom it forever.

However the interior art didn't match cover art. A big disappointment for me. The story art really has to be very good for me to enjoy the story.
