The cast is a bit mismatched, but that's what I found so interesting about this book. I never would have pictured these guys teaming up, but I feel it works pretty well. The story is, admittedly, slightly confusing if you haven't caught up, but it still managed to grab me. As for the visuals, man, they look fantastic. Everything looks so clear and detailed, with every character popping out. Squirrel Girl looks especially awesome. These aren't your normal Avengers. These are the New Avengers, and I can't wait to read more.

If you're reading this for the Young Avengers, this is really the only volume you need so far. Don't bother with vol. 2, because Teddy and Billy are only in issue #11.

And if you are a fan of Wiccan and Hulkling, this is definitely a comic to get, because a lot of the plot in this arc focuses around them and their character development. Especially issues 3-6. (Wiccan and Hulkling + Squirrel Girl are included in issue #12, when the New Avengers get tied into the Civil War 2 event.

I enjoyed the New Avengers. The art is nice and I feel fits the story very well but there is like two or three pages were the art changes and nope do not like those panels. The story is good the first issues were a nice story that ran a good pace but the end felt though it might have been a bit rushed okay more like how the minor villain they had to beat in the end was beat felt anticlimactic but enjoyed the end after. I enjoy the main villain very much the Maker is cool, crazy, and up to something. The idea of AIM is cool and interesting I especially enjoy issue two the best because it gives a excellent demonstration of what the New Avengers combine with AIM works. I also enjoy the humor added in the comic that is sprinkle in it does not deviate from the situation. Also there is so many hints to future storyline which I am curious about especially POD she is cool though does not have a lot of panel time I want to see her character developement and about Sunspot is enjoyable in the comic as the supreme leader. Yep that is all I can say. I enjoyed it but it is not the omg best there is. The biggest risk i think this comic has is to many characters and it getting flooded and becomes a action piece more than developing the characters which is the biggest problem in many team books were some characters get pushed in the background which that did not seem like a problem till the end which if you read it you will know what i am talking about but I am interested in how volume 2 will go. I also think it is surprising i sort off enjoyed squirrel girl in the avengers but she does bring comic relief at some points which is enjoyable.

Some solid ideas buried under a jumbled mess, including a team with no chemistry, a villain that seemed almost-intentionally like the writers went "Now that we got rid of A.I.M, we have to make a knockoff" (Though I did like who they chose to lead this new group), and strange tangents that sometimes work. like a couple of amusing side conversations to help us get to know the characters, and sometimes don't, like an insistence that we MUST know the layout of this island, because it will be...actually completely irrelevant to the story. Despite that, the pacing of the plot still carried me through, and the ideas laid at the end are solid enough have me coming back for Vol. 2.

The great thing about this team, and perhaps the most divisive. is that this team is very unique. The best way to describe the team would be "a next gen version of the Fantastic Four". Most of vol. 1 is the origin story of Hulkling as the once and future space-king. So you have Hulkling and his boyfriend Wiccan doing their thing, while Squirrel Girl and White Tiger do a straight man routine on the side. There are other members on the team, but their personalities kind of disappear in the background. I can see how people can get upset about that. I think it is a good read though.

Well, sorry to be a downer, but this was a really awful read. Much as I applaud Ewing's work on Mighty Avengers, this was almost unreadable. Marvel really needs to sort out continuity after the disaster that was Secret Wars and until it does all titles linked to the new reality will struggle. This one certainly does.
The art doesn't help lift the book, but essentially it is the failure of Ewing to tell a good story that really disappoints. I won't be bothering with Volume 2. That's now all 3 of the Avengers titles that I won't be going back to.
