New Teen Titans (1980-1988) Vol. 5 Kindle & comiXology

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 138 ratings

TITANS FOREVER!

The original Teen Titans always stood in the shadows of their larger-than-life mentors — young heroes like Robin, Wonder Girl and Kid Flash saw plenty of action, but it was Batman, Wonder Woman and The Flash who ultimately called the shots.

All that changed, however, with the arrival of THE NEW TEEN TITANS in 1980 — and the lives of DC's adolescent adventurers would never be the same!

Crafted by comics legends Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, this all-new super-team featured greater dangers, fiercer emotions and more tangled relationships than any that had come before. The Titans' celebrated stories have ensured that the names of Starfire, Cyborg, Raven and Changeling will be passed down through history alongside those famous aliases employed by Dick Grayson, Donna Troy and Wally West.

Now, for the first time, all of Wolfman and Pérez's NEW TEEN TITANS tales are available in a comprehensive series of trade paperback editions. THE NEW TEEN TITANS VOLUME FIVE collects issues #28-34 of the classic title as well as the fateful THE NEW TEEN TITANS ANNUAL #2, and features the team's historic first adventure with Tara Markov—a.k.a. Terra!

I have been waiting 2 years for this very copy! I wanted to own the story of Terra but the omnibus versions that house the full story of the teen titans are nearly $100 and finding just these issues is still costly and not in new condition but when they started launching this revamp of the same stories I knew it was just a matter of time till they reached her arc. I do NOT own the previous 4 volumes and because of the way the story is told you dont need to either. It has a very straight forward way of describing the characters right when they show up for the first time (which could be a little annoying for long time readers) but it doesnt give drawn out introductions. At times I do wish the story itself was a little more subtle, to give room for us to interpret what the characters are feeling or mystery to what is going on but this is my favorite comic of all times. I only just realized there was a kindle edition as well (https://amzn.com/B01IO3Y5NC) I own Watchmen as the kindle version and it does have a different feel to reading because ideally you are going from panel to panel, really absorbing the artwork and dialogue. I'm going to end up buying the kindle version of this comic, New Teen Titans Volume 5 for the ease of reading an ebook provides, but it is fantastic holding this physical copy. Not heavy, vibrant colours, no defects. I was worried I would finish it too fast but I took a break 20% in and was very satisfied (like I had just watched an episode of tv!)

From the time frame this series has taken Volume 6 should be here between 4-7 months from now. I'm hoping by christmas but realistically you should expect it next year. This volume does not complete Terra's arc so you will want the next copy (which should conclude her story.)

After all these years, these comics are still great to read. So e of the references are dated, and the books are a little wordy, but the character development, story lines and art are top notch.

You may have to adjust your own expectations to the standards of the era, with some of the style choices and attitudes reflecting another time, but the New Teen Titans by Perez and Wolfman remains one of the best titles of the first half of the 80s and still worth reading and enjoying!
