Seems like salvation

After the climatic events in War in the Sun, Garth Ennis decided to give the Preacher series a much needed shift in gears to keep the story from becoming more bungled. We catch up with Jesse and his pooch Skeeter in the town of Salvation where he runs in with his childhood friend Billy Bob's (see Until the End of the World) sister Lorie. He also meets a mysterious older woman named Jodie who he has more in common with than he thinks, and eventually he becomes sherrif of the town. He also runs into vile businessman Odin Quincannon who gives the term "meat lover" a new definition, and he also gets to tangle with the KKK. And, last but certainly not least, Jesse finally finds out what happened to him in the desert, and what happened to his eye. Ennis' storytelling is at his usual best, but Steve Dillon's usually great art isn't at it's best here, but it's still above average. All in all, Salvation is a nice diversion from the series' nearly convulted storytelling, and this sets up the pivotal events that would come in the next chapter All Hell's A Comin', and the finale Alamo.

While the Preacher seems seemed to dip a bit towards the middle, This issue really seems to hit the mark again and focuses on one of the things it does best, having Jesse kick the crap out of everyone that does wrong and stands in his way. Its not really a must read in the series, as you could figure out what is happening without Jesse's side trip to Salvation, but the villian in this volume is pretty wicked and worth checking out

As far as the series is concern, this is a fun, fast, addicting series.
I love that there is an ending, unlike other comic series that i am reading, so owning the 9 trades won't hurt my wallet or my book shelf space.

In this chapter of the Preacher saga, hero Jesse Custer's world is turned upside-down. His friends think he's dead and the love of his life has shacked up with his best friend, who is also a blood sucking vampire and lecherous fiend.

To drown his sorrows and come to grips he finds himself wandering into the south, adopting a dog and settling in a quaint little southern town. He decides to take a break form his mission to find God and vows to not abuse his supernatural powers in his quiet new life.

And that's when long lost loved ones from the past show up. When it turns out that the town isn't as quaint as it appears and they are being held under the thumb of a corrupt business tycoon who abuses them, Jesse ousts the local law enforcement to become the new town sheriff and bring righteous justice onto those who would opress its people.
