For years, the Pride controlled of Los Angeles’ criminal activity, ruling the city with an iron fist…and now, with their true natures exposed, the Pride will take any measures necessary to protect their organization — even if it means taking out their own children! Now on the run from their villainous parents, Nico, Chase, Karolina, Gertrude, Molly and Alex have only each other to rely on. And they must not only survive on their own, but also somehow take down their own powerful parents…before it’s too late! Brian K. Good Read but Wrong Names Mentioned in the Back
I gave this 4 stars because it was a great read. If you’re getting it after watching the show, just know that it is almost completely different. But I say give it a shot! However, I continued reading on after the story (of course) and I noticed what I feel like is an error or I’m just being dumb. But it says “Lucy in the Sky” is Leslie Dean when it’s not. It’s Karolina Dean and Leslie is her mother. It also says “Sister Grimm” is Rachel Messina (WHO?) when actuality it’s Nico Minoru. So I was highly confused and disappointed that this information is wrong. :( (I attached a picture)

I'll be honest. I've never heard of this team in all of the M.U. It wasn't until recently when I was reading an article on line for the M.C.U that said that this bunch would be a possible show. So with christmas money to spend i bought the first two volumes of the complete collection to see what was up with them. Partially out of 'research' and partially out of curiosity. I have been wanting to read something fresh and new besides the standard marvel work that i've been reading recently, rather than complex and epic i've been wanting something more simple and small scaled.

Runaways is the literal s#!t, as one of the team members would say.

It is definitely one of the best series i've ever found. The story is simple, evil parents having their children rebel and become heroes. Where Runaways shines is the chemistry between each character. By the end of the first volume you'll be dying to get your hands on book 2, as well as the rest that are coming out next year.

At some points the series reminded me of the older seasons of power rangers in a way. Teenagers with attitude being granted the powers and chances to do the right thing. Its like older power rangers if they were written in a way that explored each character and the relationships they have with one another in this war for balance between good and evil.

If i could have one gripe though, the big twist in the end is the only thing I felt was done in just the most laziest ways. It's just that the moment wasn't as epic as it should have been due to the fact that it really is the ONLY possible outcome from all the little hints that were so big you could have practically had them wear a neon sign that read "I WILL BETRAY YOU ALL" and no one would notice.

But besides that. Runaways is definitely one of Marvel's best young teams. If you are on the fence about weather or not looking into this book, you will definitely be getting your money's worth. It's fun, its fresh, and very well written. You will definitely be hooked.

Oh did i mention that the team has a pet Velociraptor? Cause yeah, thats a thing.

Hard to believe Runaways debuted over ten years ago. Since then, Brian K. Vaughan has gone on to write other award-wining comics, and write and produce some of the most interesting shows on TV. With the speculation that Marvel and Disney studios may start preproduction on a Runaways movie sometime in the future, this volume is a great way to be introduced to Vaughan's fresh take on young superheroes. Despite its age, Runaways is still just as relevant today, as teenage angst doesn't really go out of style. These teens (an a preteen) discover that their parents are evil super-villains. Then the protagonists learn that they each have powers of their own, which they use to bring about their parents' downfall. Along the way, they deal with standard adolescent problems like romance, sexual orientation, peer pressure, and puberty. There are major twists along the way (which are resolved in this volume). The artwork is clean and easy to follow, and goes along with a group of brand new heroes that adventure in their hoodies and jeans instead of skin-tight bodysuits. But it's Vaughan's script that is the star here, as it is with all most of his work. Vaughan left the run after 24 issues, and the series was continued by none other than Joss Whedon. It ended not long after. But the characters, and more importantly--the soul of the series, continue throughout their adventures in the Marvelverse.

This was a no-brainer of a pre-order. If you are a fan of Runaways this edition collects the single volumes #1-18. It may not be a hardcover volume but it is heavy. The paper is heavy duty glossy that is a perfect medium to reprint the story. Having only experienced the mass market volume of the first one I was blown away by the how much better this looks. I was also thrilled at all the extras. There are full page prints of each of the kids in an action pose as well as about a dozen sketches and extras. If you aren't familiar with the story it is pretty simple. Teenagers find out their parents are evil super villains and run away. Lots of teenage angst and awkward encounters and dialogue that is witty and humorous though any curse words are censored out to make this a decent choice for older teens (or adults!). Said runaways wage the fight against their parents while exploring their own budding powers and uncovering the motivations of The Pride. This volume takes you through the whole thing so no worries about an annoying cliffhanger ending while you wait for the next deluxe volume. Lots of action packed fight sequences as well as some of those inevitable twists, not too predictable but not too overly dramatic. The art is amazing as I believe I have mentioned before and feel compelled to mention again for those who may be on the fence. This is a great bargain of a book and is just beautiful in it's full glossy magnificence.

I loved this first volume so much! After watching the show, I really wanted to read the comic that it was based off of. The comic is so much better then the show in every way! I loved how it incorporated so many references to Marvel, TV shows, actors, ECT. It really made me feel immersed into the world of Runaways.

Searching round for teen fiction that is Ok for my 11 year old daughter and this has been a great series. As a comic book geek in my youth I wanted to introduce her into the Marvel universe Runaways is ideal, there are some adult issues but presented in a good way. If you need something to move on to from Harry Potter and Percy Jackson this is a good option.

Simply amazing. I'm waiting for the release of the second volume which I will purchase on it's release date.

This volume regroups the issue from 1 to 18 of the Runaways series. Colours are great, the book is strongly built. This is the first series that I read that can be fully enjoyed by boys and girls. This book would be a great gift for a teenager who wants to start reading comic books (no blood, minimum violence, no course languages).
