Raised by a race of civilized bears until a tragedy saw him eschew society and embrace a solitary life of bear slaughter in the woods, Shirtless Bear-Fighter is the only one capable of saving the day when an evil industrialist with an army of bears at his disposal launches attacks upon cities across the United States. Before long, our hero himself is in the middle of a vast conspiracy with ties to his own tragic origins. Collecting the entire five single issues of the series, this volume is about as silly as it sounds. And while the humor works a tad better when it veers more absurd and less scatological (and it does get fairly scatological), it's a total blast to spend some time in this very strange, bizarrely well-developed world.     Sebastian Girner German-born, American-raised writer, and editor of comics and graphic novels.

    Since 2008 Sebastian has developed, produced and creatively guided best-selling and acclaimed comic fiction, for publishers including Marvel Entertainment, Image Comics, VIZ Media and Random House.

    In 2017 Sebastian launched his debuts as a comic writer at Image Comics: the all-ages fantasy adventure SCALES & SCOUNDRELS (with artist/co-creator Galaad) and the tall-tale action/comedy SHIRTLESS BEAR-FIGHTER! (with co-writer/co-creators Jody Leheup and artist Nil Vendrell Pallach)

    In December 2018 Sebastian helped launch TKO STUDIOS, a new comic book, and entertainment company, as Editor in Chief.

    He lives and works in Brooklyn with his wife (who is a teacher), their son (who is a baby) and dog (who is a very good boy).

I read the reviews, some from what seemed like adults. And I read the "look inside" preview before buying this. What a mistake. The art isn't the problem. That is where all three stars belong. The humor is dumber than anything I've seen since I bought a Cracked magazine back in 1974. Where is the American humor content these days? It seems to have died along with National Lampoon magazine and Saturday Night Live. At least the British still offer some through Avatar with titles like Dan the unharmable. I had hope here with a ridiculous concept but it was a mistake. Thank goodness for the Freak Brothers revival through Gilbert Shelton, but he's not long for this world and we need new blood for adult humor in graphic novels.
