4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 731 ratings

The members of the super-team known as the Teen Titans were heroes but, more than that, the best of friends. A special bond held them together through even the toughest situations.

Then their connection became a memory. And that memory faded, stolen from time. Only one person remembers. His name is Wally West. Once upon a time, he was Kid Flash, but now he is a refugee from a lost universe and it's up to him to reawaken his former friends and re-forge their bond.

Nightwing. Donna Troy. Beast Boy. Arsenal. Lilith. They must come together and defeat the enemy who destroyed their memories or be destroyed themselves.

Spinning directly out of the events of the smash-hit story DC UNIVERSE: REBIRTH #1, history’s greatest team of young heroes is resurrected in TITANS VOL. 1: THE RETURN OF WALLY WEST! This great jumping-on point for comics fans of all generations, written by Dan Abnett with art by Brett Booth and Norm Rapmund, collects TITANS #1-6 and TITANS: REBIRTH #1!

About the Author

Dan Abnett lives and works in Maidstone, Kent. After graduating from Oxford, he worked for a while as an editor of comics and children's books before turning to writing full time. In the dozen or so years since then, he has written for such a diverse range of characters--including Scooby-Doo, Thunderbirds, Conan the Barbarian, The X-Men, Johnny Bravo, Batman, Rupert the Bear, Doctor Who, Mr. Men, The Terminator and Postman Pat--that he is now clinically bewildered. He created the popular series SINISTER DEXTER, which he continues to write, along with other strips, for 2000 AD, and has helped rejuvenate RESURRECTION MAN for DC Comics.

I have never read a "Titans" or "Teen Titans" comic book before but I have watched the cartoons on TV or seen them in a animated movie. I am in a position where I can start collecting comic books and this one caught my attention.

Story: I am familiar with Wally West as Kid Flash and I had a vague understanding that he disappeared and everyone forgot about him. The story explores his return and interaction with his old friends from the "Titans" or "Teen Titans" (sorry if I mixed them up). Aside from this, they battle a villain who reveals some information about Wally West and also gives the Titans a really hard time. All in all, I really liked this story to connect the dots from Wally's return to what it means for the "Titans" moving forward.

Characters: Right from the start I am familiar with Nightwing, Roy Harper (Arsenal) and Wally West. I have no idea who the other members are but that's on me. Nightwing steals the spotlight in my opinion because he shows great leadership during various moments throughout the volume. His interactions with his teammates is very enjoyable. There is also a possible side story involving Roy Harper and another member but I won't get into that. I especially liked the way Wally West debated with himself on whether he should have returned or not.

Art: I do not have an Art degree and I no next to nothing about art. I can only say that I really liked it and I think most people will agree with me. The thing I enjoyed the most about it was how they portrayed Wally West to have white lightning instead of red or yellow when he runs. It looks amazing!

Do I recommend you pick this up? I recommend it 100%. I think you will find a very enjoyable and memorable story arc here.

I have to start off by saying that, as I grew up (27 now), I never read a teen titans comic. I read many others, but my only experience with them was the cartoon in the early 2000's. That being said, after reading this one, I felt as though I had been reading them since childhood. Abnett does a great job of establishing the heroes' friendships early on, and continually throughout. I agree with a lot of the other reviewers in that it is very Wally West oriented, though, the Flash has been my favorite DC hero for quite some time. It also makes quite a bit of sense that DC would want to give readers a Wally centered story somewhere, seeing as how he held the Flash mantle for Barry Allen (the current "main" Flash) through a couple decades after he died saving the multiverse in Crisis on Infinite Earths.

It was great seeing all of the Titans in action on the page for the very first time (for me). I had just read NIghtwing's first "Rebirth" trade paperback a couple weeks ago and enjoyed it. Seeing Nightwing get to lead the Titans in the comic was neat, since my only experience was a younger Dick Grayson as Robin in a cartoon meant for younger audiences, the Teen Titans on Cartoon Network. The artwork is great, I only had one issue with Wally's new Flash outfit. Brett Booth seemed to love that weird lens flare on Wally's shoulder. It was in way too many frames for me.

At the end of the day, this was a very fun, easy read. Please read it and if you disagree with me, that's totes cool.

Following on the events of DC Rebirth and the Road to Rebirth title Titans Hunt, we have a brand new series that reunites the core of the original Teen Titans. Older and reconnecting, this new team (the Titans) is attempting to help the recently returned Wally West figure out who is behind the New 52 reset and who cast him out of the time stream. To that end, Wally's old Flash foe Abra Kadabra returns and attempts to once again outsmart the Flash using his futuristic magic technology. Kadabra is one of the Flash's goofier foes in my opinion: a time traveler from the future who uses advanced tech to pull off seeming magic tricks all for the sake of his own ego. However, I have to say that his bad guy plot in this book was pretty great. Kadabra's plan is a throwback to Geoff Johns' original Flash Rebirth (when Barry Allen came back after having been dead for decades). In that book it was established that speedsters who run too fast are sucked into the Speed Force and can only make their way out of it if they have a powerful emotional anchor. For years, Wally's anchor was his wife and great love Linda Park. But now thanks to the machinations of the Rebirth event, Linda has no idea who Wally is and Kadabra hopes to use this to his advantage to once again seal Wally away.

All in all, it is a terrific return for Wally West and a fun first step in reuniting him with his former love. The other Titans take a bit of the backseat here; it's understandable since Wally hasn't had any stories about him in ages, but it does make this feel less like a great team book and more like a Wally West solo title. Hopefully the upcoming arcs with share the spotlight a bit more. For using such a goofy past villain as Kadabra, this book was a great one, made all the more so by the numerous tantalizing references to the overarching Rebirth theme of Dr. Manhattan's arrival, as well as a great cliffhanger that sets up the next major Titans arc.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very fun

As someone who's never read a full story with Wally West as the main character / one of them (though in this volume he definitely is THE main character), I found him extremely likable just like the other Titans, and the story itself is pretty simply but extremely fun. The story also doesn't stop being engaging despite being very action-heavy which a lot of other comics fall victim to. The villain is also very silly but because the story clearly plays into it & doesn't expect you to take him seriously / be scared of him, it works really well. Overall very cool story with great characters & a very funny villain, solid 8/10.

I loved this book, not JUST because of it's amazing characters and plot, but because there was so much EMOTION packed into this ONE BOOK. Even if you don't know much about the Titans, this will be a fun, interesting, fast paced, and very heart driving book.

Another kindleunlimited graphic novel I'll eventually buy.
This was a random to read and its got me really interested in Titans/Wally West/The flash.
If I had to find negative points I think the artwork could have been better, but really that's just being too finicky. The story was brilliant and like I said another I'll end up buying.
To wrap up I've just got to add as a pencil artist, I love the additional artwork added at the end. It makes me prefer GN in comparison to comics.
