Review

Volume 3 is a strong collection of eclective, convincing horror-themed short stories, told with enthusiasm and conviction. Highly recommended. -Laptop Zombie

All in all,
Twisted Dark Volume 3 is an absolute gem .... Gibson knows exactly what buttons to push to captivate his audience and leave them wanting more.

Faster paced storytelling and a more focused narrative makes Volume 3 the best of the bunch. -Spandexless

'Twisted Dark, Volume 3' by Neil Gibson is back, and we are back to the darker tales like we got in the first volume. The stories don't always have a twist, but they are all a bit twisted.

The stories do have some similar characters. Some are easier to pick out than others. One recurring character is El Nudillo, a ruthless and malicious drug lord. Characters who cross his path don't have very good things happen to them. There's also a woman who samples some wine at a supermarket, then gets pulled over for drunk driving. A young boy who is scared of something in the night takes it to an interesting career choice. Probably the most poignant story is 'Perfection' about a young girl looking to lose weight, and never happy with the results until the final results are revealed.

There are other stories, but I'll leave them for the reader to discover. The art is all by different artists. Some is better than others, but the real reason to read this is for the twisted imagination of Neil Gibson. The stories read like the old EC Horror comics or the old CBS Radio Mystery Theater. Classic throwback horror stories with more modern characters. I liked this one as much as the first volume.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Diamond Book Distributors, TPub, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

I have not read the two volumes prior to Volume 3, but I don’t think that I needed to in order to follow along. With that said, after reading this volume I MUST get my hands on those other two volumes because it was just THAT good! I devoured it in about an hour.

Twisted Dark is a bunch of short stories involving different characters from different backgrounds (rich, poor, young, old). In my opinion, it was reminiscent of The Twilight Zone which is known for its fantastic and creepy story-telling. They were similar because they both have the tendency to frighten you and make you think outside the box.

The creators of this graphic novel pulled together the seven deadly sins (lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, etc) and designed these incredibly dark, but marvelously written events.

What I especially enjoyed about it was that they did not create a bunch of extremely violent pictures that were pointless. That was the most chilling part of it all. They took the most basic human instincts (love, hatred, sadness) and created a frightening picture of things that, unfortunately, happen all the time all around the world.

They scored huge points for including a few actual facts of real-life events or quotes that added to the overall effect of that particular story.

I wish I could break down each story for you, but then this would be a hundred pages long. I highly recommend it if you are interested in graphic novels that involve the macabre.

It is definitely not for people who are overly-sensitive to graphic violence.

I am not just giving this book five stars because I was bribed, I genuinely find it to be a must read.
The illustrations are done by 7 different artist, and a recurring art-style often clues you in that this story might tie in with those stories that share its style. Even keeping that in mind and the fact that Gibson loves his twists, you often get curve balled right in the dangly-bits when you turn the page to reveal the ending, often a full page image, a panel that sticks with you.

I do enjoy the varied art and the subtle grey pallet and expressions, but Neil Gibson is the guy responsible for making this book (and series I would wager) hard to put away for the night (even if you have to, because you fear Twisted Dark's twister of twists might twist your noodle).
Neil has stated that the last tale in this book is his own personal favourite story from any book he has written, I actually prefer the long story in the middle (called "Perfection", if anyone who owns this book does not know which one I am referring to).
In that story we really get inside the head of the protagonist, and we deal with a disorder which, while not overlooked, is often poorly relayed.

I will recommend this book to anyone wanting to see what the comic book world has to offer; to anyone who has read, and liked, any of sir Gibson's other work; and to anyone who is just feels a bit twisted.

This is a collection of bizarre short stories often with fairly dark themes. Some of the stories were very overtly obvious in connecting while others were far more subtle. I don’t think I’ve picked up on all of the connections quite yet because they really are that subtle and take quite a bit of thinking. For me, most of these stories were dark, creepy, sometimes macabre enough to be considered in the realm of horror. I do think this is subject to personal taste though. While I enjoyed the very interesting stories and considering how they connected to one another I was a bit underwhelmed with the actual art. It was done very well but wasn’t a style that I personally find very appealing. There were a few scenes when I had trouble being able to tell various characters apart and had to go back and forth and really examine them, especially with men. I even did this between various stories a few times just to check. Overall I think this is a great choice for anyone who enjoys both graphic novels and the horror genre.

This eGalley was provided free from the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affected my opinion and I was compensated in no other manner.

So glad the rest of these have come on Amazon after waiting so long after getting first one as pretty much my first comic purchase on kindle fire. It is easy to read on the device, the short stories are just as dark as the first. Often taking you by surprise which is quite rare for me an enjoyable punch in the gut. Good value for money for money for length as well. It is nice to support Indies also, hope Neil Gibson keeps up the good work and continues to bring them out on kindle so I can easily buy and read.
