Tyson Hesse's Diesel: Ignition Kindle & comiXology

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 107 ratings

The first-ever original graphic novel spawning out of Tyson Hesse’s Diesel, Hesse’s popular “punk motif”-inspired, coming-of-age story about Diandra “Dee” Diesel, her mysterious flying engine, and the airship colony she lives on, Peacetowne. When a long-lost army suddenly appears from beneath the clouds, one impulsive decision made by Dee will change her destiny forever. With only her broken-down robot companion and a mysterious flying engine to help her, Dee is sent on a sky-bound journey that will take her from the darkest wastelands below the clouds to the brightest capital of her world. Her greatest challenge will be to look beyond her family legacy and create a destiny of her own choosing. Tyson Hesse’s (Amazing World of Gumball, Bravest Warriors) visually stunning graphic novel examines the importance of family, responsibility, and heroism, all set in a grand, new world! Includes the first 4 issues of Tyson Hesse's Diesel comic series, as well as over 80 pages of new, original content.

The art is gorgeous which was a main selling point for me. It takes inspiration from Manga and western comics. However the copy I received had an anti-theft sticker placed on one of the pages obscuring some of the art which is a little disappointing.

I've been a fan of Tyson Hesse since his "Boxer Hockey" days, and I'm so happy to see more people getting into his work. I'm really glad I was able to finally read this, as I'd been hearing about it for a while and never had the chance to pick it up before. I still hope to get a physical copy some day.

About the book: the story is a really great start to something fantastic, and it's left me wanting more! I love Hesse's art (as usual) and the characters have such cool designs that really lend to their personalities. I love Dee, despite all the foolish choices she makes, because I know she has a very brave heart and just wants to make something of herself. And I have a soft spot for Bull - he's amazing and is the definitely necessary voice of reason/straight man of the group.

If you too used to read Boxer Hockey and came to find this expecting the same kind of humor: don't. Hesse has definitely matured, though there is still plenty of humor and funny faces along with lots of action and heart-pounding drama. You'll find yourself cheering for these characters and wondering where life will take them next.

This book is great. The art is amazing. Characters, action, humor, and story are solid, as well. The world feels unique and fleshed out. Definitely one of my favorite comics.

It's not very obvious from the description, but this is the first part of a larger story. There is an ending to what is going on in this part, but it does just kind of stop in terms of the big picture. I can see how that may be disapointing for some people. However, the price point is great and there is a ton of cool stuff here. Would recommend to anyone who is interested.

I met Tyson at a con last year and procured the first chapter from him. I enjoyed it so much I per-ordered this trade paperback. I love the style, I love the characters, but the story feels rushed and relies heavily on coincidence, which is even brought up by the characters. Overall I would recommend this to anyone who likes magic, mystery, and mad science. I will be buying all future volumes as even if the beginning was a bit weak, it sets the stage for a great story.

I love the character design and artwork. The story is interesting and had me going one frame to the next almost non-stop, slowing down only to enjoy the artist's lovely work.

The fantasy setting has a steampunk feel, combining the mechanical with hints of magic and/or elemental control. You get robots, flying ships, comedy, tragedy, mystery, and intrigue all as part of a coming-of-age story of a girl struggling to figure out her place in the world.

If you enjoy a well-crafted world, and characters, check this graphic novel out.

I need more! I came into this thinking it was a self-contained and complete story, only to find out that at the end of this volume, it's only just getting started. And I am hooked! the art is vibrant, energetic, and exciting, and the story and characters pull you along in a really great way. This was a blind buy for me, not knowing anything about the author or the novel, and it was worth every penny!

I've been reading Diesel since it's first incarnation years and years ago, and it's been a great pleasure to see its evolution into this funny, beautiful, cute, action-packed, heartfelt graphic novel. I've always loved Hesse's art and it's reached a whole new level of awesome here. The new additions to the story are fantastic and give more of a glimpse into the world and characters of Diesel. I can't wait for the next volume.

Diesel is just amazing, plain and simple. A solid story packed with lovable and relatable characters. Also the art is just ridiculously good. I've found myself constantly rereading it since the day I got it. Do yourself a favor: buy 12 copies, keep like 3 for yourself, spread the rest amongst loved ones.
