Received two copies of the book, both with pages missing words and ink.
Double check your book when it arrives, I have received two copies of this book, both with printing errors inside the first chapter. It looks like some of the pages are missing black ink. Hopefully they aren't all like this!

Wayward, Vol. 1: String Theory is an Image comic that takes place in Japan. Rori Lane is a half-Irish/half-Japanese girl with red hair, magical powers, and a habit of cutting herself. She's followed by cats that turn into sword-wielding turtle-monsters and gets into all sorts of adventures both mundane and supernatural. She lives in near poverty in her uneducated mother's studio apartment, and of course, she meets other people with supernatural powers.

Wayward is an excellent snapshot of Japan in the 21st century, as famed translator Zack Davisson opines in his opening remarks, and Bleeding Cool calls it potentially the next Saga. Unfortunately, I can only see it from the perspective of someone who lived in Japan, and while I enjoyed the detail, structure, and story, not to mention the artwork, coloring, and lettering, I wonder what type of universal appeal it will have. Everyone who's interested in Japan who reads comics should give this a look, and I hope it gets some crossover exposure. ****1/2

Enjoy Manga? Enjoy Western Comics? If you answered yes to both then there finally is a book for you that isn't one of those atrocious "manga version of some piece of Western Pop media." To say more on the plot would render the description of the book pointless so I will cut directly to the facts that the Art is great and isn't some American manga style knock off crap (if you've been to Deviant Art you know what I mean), the writing is well paced and tells a cohesive story, and it does what a volume 1 should always do: get you to want to see more of the world the story takes place in. Give this one a read.

I just love Wayward! This is a great story with interesting new characters set in a realistic Japan. Wayward is one of the best new series I've read in quite some time. It has interesting characters, great dialogue, and draws you right in. I hold it up along with Birthright, Saga, and Fables as favorite current graphic novels. If you like any of those, I bet you'll enjoy this. The art is just wonderful. I love when an artist really puts everything into it. The colors, the inking, the writing - all first rate.

And you know how most graphic novels switch to a worse artist after the first graphic novel? This one doesn't! The great art continues throughout the second graphic novel, too. Thank you!

Stunningly illustrated and beautifully told, Wayward is one e of those comics that are not to be missed. The art is stunning and lavish, the characters are very emotive and lifelike in the way they are drawn and colored and the backgrounds are super detailed yet efficiently drawn. It's one of those books th at is ACHING for a movie deal. It's just stunning

It was pretty interesting, the character powers were possibly the most intriguing but it started to get boring after the first few chapters, I found myself more so skimming through than actually reading it, the story became cliche during certain points.

If anything this is an interesting first volume. There may not be a lot that's too new about the story, "girl goes to new place, girl find out she has powers, girl fights monsters" is hardly a new thing. But the setting and art sets this book apart from the rest, you'll be hard-pressed to find a more beautifully drawn and vibrant setting.

If you enjoyed Saga then you'll probably enjoy this.

This is an amazing series. For those who want to catch up to what's going on in it for a great price, this is the book to start with. As an avid comic book reader I can honestly say if you like superheroes and anime, then this is the perfect series for you. Enjoy and happy reading!!

This has a decently original story line, and while it's not particularly compelling and the characters haven't been too likable or relatable in any way, I thought it was a fun read, if not pretty quick. I think it could be easy to drag this out way longer than it needs to be, but if it keeps the pace it's at and doesn't spread too thin, I'll keep reading it.

A great comic that I think could end up being the next hit. This comic is like a beautiful meld of manga and american comics. It is based in Japan and mixes Japanese folklore with kids with superpowers. This comic was totally surprising, and I already want the next one.

Pros:
-Amazing art
-Unique plot
-Unique powers
-Interesting characters
-Cool settings
-Cool mix of folklore and modern times.

Cons:
-I don't think the other characters were introduced well enough. Hopefully we will get to learn more about them as time goes on.

Bought as 'vg', arrived fairly quickly, and was pleased with its' overall condition - refreshing to receive
something that has had an honest appraisal, so thanks all round
As for the story, for some reason I have the middle of the tale, so now I can read it in order and keep
a look out for Vol. 6. It happens
Very good though - I particularly enjoy the lessons in Japanese folk-lore at the back - very informative,
and probably worth the price of admission alone
