Editorial Reviews

Review

"...the epitome of following strength with strength. The second volume has everything I loved about book one -- witty dialog, ghastly creeps from the netherhells, grotesque fight-scenes, and the monster-as-hero thing I've loved since I was a kid -- but more, more, more!" -Cory Doctorow, Boing Boing

"Like an exceptional second season of a television show, MAL PRACTICE builds on what came before while taking the series in exciting new directions." -Oliver Sava,
The A.V. Club

"What happens when you take TV shows like
House and Fringe, get them really drunk, lock them in a room together, and blast some of Barry White's greatest hits? We'll give you a hint. It begins with 'Witch' and ends with 'Doctor'... a unique combination of spine-tingling terror and medical drama." -Ryan Rigley, MTV Splashpage

"Original. Fun. Stylish and offbeat. You won't be disappointed." -Clive Barker

"Holy ****, this is good! ...is a fun, action-packed, dark arts-laden gem of a comic, and I can't wait to read future issues." -Giaco Furino,
FEARnet

His Snarkiness has returned to warn us all about the dangers of spellborne illnesses.

Watch as The Doctor and Penny Dreadful battle a boatload of new enemies - a devilish medicine show trio, blood-sucking phantasms, vengeful Egyptian gods, golems, an assortment of beings with "glowy eyes", and Charlotte Fever, a gal with a bad case of centipede tongue.

Watch out for the sinister Surgeons! Looking not unlike the Cenobites from 'Hellraiser', they only want to HEAL YOU!

One of the things I love most about the Doc is that even when he's using the Diablosuction machine, he's never too busy to debate theology:

"The Gods are our shepherds," claims Catrina Macabrey, pathologist and the Doctor's future ex-wife.

Shepherds don't tend sheep because they're NICE GUYS. They do it for the FLEECE AND MUTTON," he replies.

Next to 'Chew' and 'Preacher', this is my favorite graphic novel series, and probably the ONLY book to ever use the phrase ...floaty cluster of umbilical guts.

This is a review in terms of mostly the series itself, not Amazon specifically, which is why i give it 5 stars
I first stumbled across this breathtaking new series at a locally owned book store. I had bought the first volume there. I quickly read through it, and before the night was over, i had already went online to purchase the second volume. I was so excited to keep reading! Skybound, owned by Robert Kirkman (creator of the Walking Dead) is kick @$$ publisher house, who is in association with Image comics. The only let down was due to the poor packaging which when finally delivered, i recieved a copy with a small tear on the cover, and a semi smashed binding.

This is an excellent extension of the Witch Doctor universe.

I enjoyed the overall story-arc and I especially loved how Seifert teased out the characters of Eric Gast and Penny Dreadful to make them more complex and endearing. For me, they're what makes waiting for the next installment harder to do, especially when the creators aren't sure when they'll be able to return to the story.

Witch Doctor volumes 1 and 2 are well contained, artful, and still are able to be part of a greater conversation. I recommend this series to those who enjoy sci-fi blended with horror, on top of classic American gothic literature the likes of Nathaniel Hawthorne, Edgar Allen Poe, and (of course) H.P. Lovecraft, then sprinkled with tongue-in-cheek humor.

More exquisite horror and humor from the twisted shadows of Brandon Seifert's brain. If you liked the first volume, you'll surely love this one even more forcibly. Unique and fun stories, exquisite art and a wry wit accompany fresh and incisive ideas on old horror classic concepts.

I devoured this book and have recommended it to all my friends who have shown any slight interest in enjoyable fiction.

The only flaw I found in this book is that same feeling of let down after Christmas is over. Isn't there any more?

The next volume can't come soon enough.

Good continuation of the series. The art in this graphic novel is amazing and the story is really clever and well done, it's got a lot of action and some mystery to it. The characters are also very well written and you want to know more about them all.
If you liked the first book I would definitely suggest buying this one as it is definitely worth the read.

I will always love the gory and detailed art. They put in far more character development in this volume and were able to include several small moments where you really do feel and worry about the characters. Love the new characters introduced (not going to give you spoilers) and different explanations for various medical issues. Also, how the doctor saved everyone in the end is just to funny to forget.

Impossible not to love. A perfect blend of adept art, writing, horror, comedy, medical drama, creature features, and just the perfect amount of Lovecraftian Mythos without seeming redundant. I just hope this Alaskan duo eventually come out with a third volume. One of the best horror comics ever made.

The art was fantastic, the story went above and beyond, the one disappointment that I have is that this is the end of the tracks for this series so far.

I loved this entire series. I thought they had stopped with the first volume and I have been looking for this everywhere. I want them to keep this series going and I don't understand how something this popular could have stopped.
