Paul Levitz was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1956, and entered the comics industry in 1971 as editor/publisher of The Comic Reader, the first mass-circulation fanzine devoted to comics news. He continued to publish TCR for three years, winning two consecutive annual Comic Art Fan Awards for Best Fanzine. His other fan activities included editing the program books for several of Phil Seuling’s legendary New York Comic Art Conventions,. He received Comic-con International’s Inkpot Award in 2002, the prestigious Bob Clampett Humanitarian Award in 2008, and the Comics industry Appreciation Award from ComicsPro (the trade association of comic shop retailers) in 2010. Levitz also serves on the board of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund.

Levitz is primarily known for his work for DC Comics, where he has written most of their classic characters including the Justice Society, Superman in both comics and the newspaper strip, and an acclaimed run on The Legion of Super-Heroes, a series he’s recently returned to write. Readers of The Buyers’ Guide voted his Legion: The Great Darkness Saga one of the 20 best comic stories of the last century, and visitors to the site comicbookresources.com selected the same story as #11 of the Top 100 Comic Book Stories of All Time. DC Comics has just issued a new hardcover edition of Legion: The Great Darkness Saga, which made the New York Times' Graphic Books Bestseller List.

Cumulatively, Levitz has written over 300 stories with sales of over 25 million copies, and translations into over 20 languages. As a DC staffer from 1973, Levitz was an assistant editor, the company’s youngest editor ever, and in a series of business capacities, became Executive Vice President & Publisher in 1989 and then served as President & Publisher from 2002-2009. He continues as a Contributing Editor, but is now concentrating on his writing.

His current writing projects include Taschen’s 75 YEARS OF DC COMICS: THE ART OF MODERN MYTHMAKING, which the LA Times praised for "its colossal ambitions, insights and collected rarities" and the NY Times called "richly conceived history."

Great run and it starts here. A lot of people don’t look past some of the costume changes in the new 52 and miss out on some good writing.

I really liked this run. I had to think about it to figure out why. And I figured it must be the back to basics team up fun and the twist to the Batman Superman team up.

They are not at all just female versions of anything. The power and skill sets is the only thing that’s a direct parallel.

I like how they play up power girls Krypton education and use of her intellect. I hope if they ever use Power Girl in the CW shows they take this route with her character.

This to me is the most interesting version of Huntress. The Cat woman as her mom also training her was a nice detail that pops up here and there.

The Huntress and Power Girl were created to be the daughter of the original Batman and the grown up cousin of the original Superman. Even after the Golden Age versions of Batman and Superman were deleted from history the two carried on, getting various alternate origins along the way.

With DC's 2011 reboot Huntress and Power Girl are back and close to their original incarnations. This time they're once again heirs to alternate versions of Batman and Superman exiled to the 'normal' DC universe after a war with Darkseid and trying to find a way home.

With writer Paul Levitz (who co-created Huntress) and legendary artists George Perez and Kevin McGuire sharing penciling duties this is a pretty good book.

Thanks to the art team Huntress and Power Girl manage to have very different personalities, body types and faces. Levitz writes them with very different personalities but also as good friends.

The problem is the plot. Because this book is tied into future DC plans there aren't many places it can go, the two can't get home, they can't reveal their story to other DC heroes and they can't confront Darkseid. So they spend 5 issues fighting a boring radiation monster named Hakko. Even the heroines comment how repetitive things are. Things pick up in the last story, a 0 issue prequel that shows how they first met.

Like many other New 52 books this does not suffer from a lack of talent, but since it's tied to 51 other books and overseen by a heavy-handed editorial staff it can't really achieve its full potential.

I love the characters and creators so I'll probably stay with this but it's a good case study of what's wrong with the New 52.

It's hard to review without spoilers but I can honestly say this ranks up there with Aquaman and The Suicide Squad as one of the best of the New 52. The comic is so good that even with the new PC costume for Powergirl they still get the boob window in. That's pretty good loopholing! This is a great pair of heroes. I love the buddy system in this one and the fact that it's a girl powered comic. (I liked Batwoman mind you but they were definitely pushing that one with having Rachael Maddow do the forward, unnecessary). Batgirl is an incredible comic so I rate by that and World's finest definitely matches it punch for punch. While reading it I never felt that Huntress was being purposely "missed" by the writer from attacks that stunned Powergirl just to keep her alive. This is a great comic.

I recommend Aquaman, Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, Justice League Dark, Batgirl, and the Flash as the top DC comics. I personally like the Red Lantern corp but that's not everyone's forte.

I love this rebooting/retelling of Power Girl and Huntress' origins. Where Power Girl is concerned, her being Supergirl in the Earth 2 universe and being stranded on our earth along with Huntress (who we know here is Batman and Catwoman's daughter and not the Helena Bertinelli version) aka Helena Wayne/Robin on Earth 2 works better for the characters. Everyone knows that Power Girl and Supergirl are the same being but this scenario really makes sense as opposed to the previous post-Crisis rebootings, etc. Levitz, Pérez and Maguire have done an excellent job on this. This and the following storylines in this series should be made into a DC Universe Original Animated movie, as I'd love to see a Power Girl animated movie and this would work to the character's advantage.

World's Finest, Vol. 1 introduces us to the New 52 versions of classic Bronze Age/Iron Age heroines Huntress and Power Girl, both of which suffered changes to their concept since the Crisis On Infinite Earths. Power Girl survived the Crisis, but became a ball of confusion over what "origin story of the week" is truly canonical with her or not, while the Huntress was still connected with Batman, but just as a version of Batman that was raised in a mob family that got killed and is seeking to settle a score with the murderers. Here with the New 52 version, Power Girl is back to being the cousin of the Earth-2 Superman (though originally going under the identity of Supergirl), while the Huntress is back to being the daughter of the Earth-2 Batman (though originally going under the identity of Robin) with the added bonus of taking on the identity of the previous Huntress. Most of this volume is about the two girls getting used to being in DC's Prime Earth world with much of the book having them deal with a giant radioactive menace that gets out of control. It's not bad, and we do see how the two girls bond with each other, though I do think Power Girl's costume is a bit too weird compared to her "breast window" costume I'm more used to seeing her in, which DC ended up bringing back in a modernized way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aus Supergirl und Robin werden Powergirl und Huntress
Reviewed in Germany on January 20, 2014

5.0 out of 5 stars Huntress and Power Girl return in the New 52
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 8, 2013
Before the New 52, Huntress and Power Girl existed on Earth 2. Huntress (Helena Wayne) is the daughter of Batman and Catwoman on Earth 2 and Power Girl is the cousin to Superman on Earth 2. Now they return in the New 52 and they look very different. Helena Wayne was actually Robin before becoming Huntress and Power Girl was Supergirl. After they got transported to Prime Earth during the events of Earth 2 Volume 1: The Gathering. Now on the New 52 Earth, Helena Wayne became Huntress identity the name Helena Bertinelli while Power Girl took the name Karen Starr.

A very Well Done book in the New 52. I love the writing, the artwork and everything else. The very Well Done #0 issue showing the origins of Huntress and Power Girl on Earth 2 before they arrived on Prime Earth. It's a very beautiful tribute to the classic Earth 2 Huntress and Power Girl and I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Retour durable de la Power Girl que nous aimons ?
Reviewed in France on August 17, 2013

Mister Terrific 1: Mind Games ').

Worlds' Finest Vol. 2: Hunt and Be Hunted ') !
